Data released moments ago at the start of the European session today, Thursday, July 24, showed improvements in most services and manufacturing Purchasing Managers’ Indices (PMIs) in the eurozone and the United Kingdom in the preliminary reading for July. The Eurozone Services PMI rose to a six-month high of 51.2 in May, compared to a revised 50.5 in June (expectations: 50.6). Meanwhile, the Manufacturing PMI rose to a 36-month high of 49.8, up from 49.5 in June (expectations: 49.7). In detail, the French Services PMI rose to 49.7 in July, up from 49.6 in June, its highest reading in 11 months, matching expectations. Meanwhile, the Manufacturing PMI rose to 48.4 in July, its highest reading in two months, compared to 48.1 in June (expectations: 48.5). From Germany, the services index rose to a four-month high of 50.1 in July, compared to 49.7 in June, beating expectations of 50. The manufacturing index also rose to 49.2, compared to June’s reading of 49, its highest reading in 36 months (expected 49.4). Meanwhile, data from the United Kingdom was mixed, with the manufacturing index exceeding expectations in July at 48.2, recording a six-month high compared to June’s reading of 47.7. Meanwhile, the services index fell to a two-month low of 51.2, compared to June’s revised reading of 52.8, which was forecast at 52.7.
