The consumer price index, which is concerned with measuring inflation in the United States of America, recorded a rise in March by 0.6 per cent in the monthly reading, according to the US Census Bureau data released shortly before 0.4 per cent in February, which is better than market expectations that indicated a rise to 0.5 per cent. In the past, the main index, from which food and energy prices are excluded, rose by 0.3 percent, compared to expectations that indicated a rise of 0.2 percent in the same February reading. Seasonally adjusted inflation, or the annual reading, recorded a rise of 2.6 percent compared to 1.7 percent in February, which is better than expectations that indicated a rise to 2.5 percent. In the details, the gasoline index rose by 9.1 percent, while the food index rose by 0.1 percent.
