Data released moments ago by the US Census Bureau showed a rise in US retail sales, below market expectations, as sales rose by 0.2% in June to reach $689.5 billion, compared to a growth of about 0.3% in the May reading, before being revised to 0.5%, as expected. It indicates an increase of about 0.5%.
Underlying sales, excluding cars and spare parts, increased by 0.2% in June, compared to a decline of about 0.1% recorded in May, while sales of food services and drinking places increased by 8.4% year-on-year.
Inflation from Canada
The Consumer Price Index (CPI) in Canada grew by about 2.8% in June on an annual basis, according to figures released moments ago, compared to 3.4% in the May reading, less than expectations that indicated a rise to 2.9%, while prices for the main index, excluding gasoline, rose to 4%, compared to 4%. 4% in the May reading.
On a monthly basis, the index rose by 0.1% in June, after growing by about 0.4% in May, better than market expectations, which indicated its stability at 0.3%.
In the details, gasoline prices fell by 21.6% in June on an annual basis, after declining by 18.3% in May, on an annual basis, while food prices rose by 9.1% on an annual basis.
