US Durable Goods Orders Grow Less Than Expected

New orders for durable goods rose in June, according to a report released moments ago by the US Census Bureau. The increase was $1.1 billion, reaching $334.8 billion, a rise of 0.3%, compared to a revised 4% decline in May. Expectations had been for a 1.6% increase. Meanwhile, core orders, excluding transportation, rose 0.6% in June, compared to a 1.4% increase in May (expectations were 0.09%).

In detail, new orders excluding defense rose by approximately 0.3%, with computers and electronic products leading the list of fastest-growing sectors, rising 3.1%, or $0.9 billion, to reach $31.1 billion.
