The ZEW Business Confidence Index in Germany rose 7.9 points in August, reaching a six-month high of 34.1, compared to 26.3 in July. This exceeded expectations of a 30.1 reading. The July increase was driven by a significant improvement in the assessment of the current economic situation in Germany, which rose 16.5 points to -61.1. Strong quarterly results and high export levels supported this confidence.

At the sector level, most sectors showed improvement in their indices in August, particularly the automotive sector, which rose by 22.2 points. The chemicals, pharmaceuticals, mechanical engineering, and metals sectors also recorded strong growth.

The industrial sector saw significant growth. In contrast, the index concerned with the Eurozone rose by 4.9 points to reach 31.4 points, while expectations indicated that it would rise by about 25.9, while the index assessing the current situation continues in the negative zone despite its improvement at -21.5, which is 16.2 points lower than the July reading.
