Figures released this morning, Wednesday, September 30, during the Asian session by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) showed that consumer price inflation rose to 4% year-on-year in August, compared to a 3.5% increase in July. This was slightly below the expected 4.1%. On a monthly basis, the index rose by 0.4%, compared to a 1.0% increase in July (the forecast was 0.5%).
The most significant increase in the index in January came from the housing sector, which rose by approximately 5.7%, up from 5%. The food and non-alcoholic beverages index rose by 3%, and the recreation and culture sector saw a 2.9% increase.
