Data issued moments ago by the Bureau of Labor Statistics in the United States of America showed that the Consumer Price Index (CPI), which measures inflation, rose by 0.5% in January, after declining by 0.1% in December, matching expectations, while the main index, excluding food and energy prices, rose to 0.4% compared to By 0.3% in December.
On the other hand, the annual index rose over the past 12 months to 6.4% from 6.5% in December, below expectations that indicated a decline to 6.2%, while the annual basic index, excluding food and energy prices, fell to 5.6% in January from 5.7%.
In the details of the index, the food index recorded a growth of 10.1% on an annual basis, recording an increase of about 0.5% in January, while the energy index increased by 2.0% in January, up by about 8.7 on an annual basis.
