The IFO business confidence index in Germany rose in August to 88.8, up from 86.7 in June, exceeding market expectations of 87.2 and marking its best reading since August of last year. The index, which surveys nearly 9,000 German companies, reflects increased optimism among businesses regarding the current situation and improved expectations for the coming months.
Specifically, the current situation index rose to 88.5 from 86.5 in July, while the expectations index climbed to 89.1 from 86.8 in June.
At the sector level, the manufacturing index fell to -4.2 from -9.6 in July, the services index dropped to -2.1 from -4.4, and the construction index declined to -16.5 from -20.5.
