The German ZEW Business Sentiment Index rose more than expected in September, rising 2.6 points to 37.3, compared to 34.7 in August. Expectations were for a 25.3 increase. The September reading came despite a continued deterioration in the assessment of the current economic situation in Germany, reaching -76.4, down 7.8 from the August reading. The report indicated that uncertainty over tariff policy persists.
Conversely, the eurozone index improved by 1.0 points to 26.1, compared to expectations of a slowdown of around 20.3. The current situation assessment also rose slightly by 2.4 points to -28.8.
