Inflation in Australia rose to 6.8% in April

 Figures issued in the Asian session today, Wednesday, from the Australian Institute of Statistics (ABS) showed that the consumer price index, which measures inflation in Australia, rose by 6.8% on an annual basis in April, compared to 6.3% in March, to come higher than expectations that indicated a rise to 6.4%.

On the other hand, the index excluded from it rose.

Prices of accepted commodities such as fruits, vegetables and motor fuels rose to 6.5% from 6.9% in March.

In the details, the most important increases in the index came from the increase in housing prices by 8.9%, while the prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages increased by about 7.9%, and transportation prices increased by 7.1%.
