Data released moments before by the Bureau of Labor Statistics in the United States of America showed a decline in the Consumer Price Index (CPI), which measures urban inflation, by 0.3.% in August, after rising by about 0.5% in July, to come below expectations that indicated a decline to 0.4%, in On the other hand, the annual index rose by 5.3% as expected, compared to 5.4% in the July reading.
The main index, excluding food and energy prices, fell to 0.1%, its lowest level since February of this year, compared to 0.3% in July’s reading, to reach 4% on an annual basis.
In details, the energy index rose by about 2% in August, benefiting from the increase in the gasoline index by 2.8%, while the food index rose by about 0.4%.
