US Durable Goods Orders Exceed Expectations in July

New orders for durable goods rose in June, according to a report released moments ago by the US Census Bureau. The increase reached $339.3 billion, a 1.1% rise compared to the 0.5% growth in June, while expectations were for a 0.4% increase. Core orders, excluding transportation, rose 0.4% in June, compared to a 0.7% increase in June (expectations were for 0.6%).

Specifically, new orders excluding defense rose by approximately 1.3%. Transportation equipment, after declining for two months, led the list of the most in-demand sectors, with an increase of $2.6 billion, or 2.3%, to reach $116.2 billion.
