Data released moments ago by the US Census Bureau showed that US retail sales fell short of market expectations in January to reach $723.9 billion, down 0.9% compared to a 0.7% increase in the revised December reading, up from 0.4%, while expectations were for a 0.2% decrease, while the index recorded a growth of 4.2% on an annual basis compared to January 2024.
Core sales excluding auto prices recorded a decline in January by 0.4% compared to a growth of about 0.7% recorded in December after the revision, which is worse than expectations that indicated a growth of 0.3%.
