Data released in the European period on Monday, the opening session of the week, showed variation in most of the services and manufacturing PMIs in the Eurozone and the UK in the preliminary reading for December, as the services index rose to its highest level in two months to 51.4 in December compared to 49.5 in November, while the manufacturing index stabilized at 45.2, as the pace of job cuts was the fastest in four years.
In detail, the services PMI in France rose to 48.2 in December compared to 46.9 in November, recording its highest reading in two months, better than expectations that indicated a decline to 46.9, while the manufacturing index declined to 41.9 in December, recording its lowest level in 55 months compared to 43.1 in January (expectations 43.2).
From Germany, the services index rose to its highest reading in two months at 51.0 in December compared to 49.3 in November, better than expectations of 49.5, while the manufacturing index declined to 42.5 compared to November’s reading of 43.0, its lowest reading in three months.
In a related context, data from the United Kingdom came in mixed, as the manufacturing index fell to 47.3, recording its lowest level in 11 months, compared to November’s revised reading of 48, while the services index rose to its highest level in two months at 51.4 compared to November’s revised reading of 50.8 (expectations 50.9).
