The September reading came despite a continued deterioration in the assessment of the current economic situation in Germany, which fell to -80 from -76.4 in September. Experts are hopeful for an improvement in the medium term.
Conversely, the eurozone index fell by 3.4 points to 22.7, compared to expectations for an increase of around 30.2. The October reading was affected by the political situation in France, where the assessment of the current situation deteriorated slightly by 3 points to -31.8.
