The three main indices of US stocks recorded mixed performance when they closed the opening session of the week yesterday, Monday, after strong gains recorded in the closing session of last week, when both the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the S&P 500 declined, while the NASDAQ index recorded gains at the close.
Amid the absence of strong economic data in the opening session, the markets interacted with the statements of the two members of the US Federal Reserve, Mary Daly, President of the US Federal Reserve in San Francisco, and Rafael Bostick, President of the Federal Reserve in Atlanta, where the members of the Federal Reserve indicated that the US Federal Reserve is expected to raise interest rates by more than 5% in the first half of the year.
This created some confusion for traders after expectations rose that the peak of the hike did not exceed 4.9% after the US labor market numbers.
It is expected that companies and financial institutions will begin to disclose their quarterly results for the fourth and last quarter of last year, as it is expected that (Bank of America, JPMorgan, Wells Fargo, and Citigroup) will announce their results on Friday by the end of the week.
On the other hand, the markets are awaiting during the session today, Tuesday, the statements of the US Federal Reserve Chairman, Jerome Powell, in Stockholm during the American session.
Tesla shares recorded increases of more than 5.9% at the close from $119.77 levels, benefiting from the electric car manufacturer’s reduction in the prices of its vehicles in China for the second time in a row, while Amazon’s share topped the gains in the technology sector, rising by about 1.5%, while Microsoft’s share rose by about 1%. Apple shares rose by 0.40%.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average (Dow) closed down by about (112) points at the close at 33,517 levels, a loss of about 0.34%. It is now trading in the futures session for today, Tuesday, at 33,621 levels, down by about 49 points.
While the S&P (S&P500) recorded declines at the close at 3.892 levels, a loss of about (2.99) points, or 0.08%, and it is now trading in the futures at 3.915 levels, down by about 6 points.
While the Nasdaq index recorded gains of (66 points) to close the session at 10.635 points, recording gains of about 0.63%, and it is now trading in the future, down by about 22 points.
