The ZEW Business Sentiment Index in Germany rose 0.5 points in September, reaching a seven-month high of 34.7, compared to 34.2 in August. This fell short of expectations, which had anticipated a rise to 39.8. The September increase was accompanied by an improvement in the assessment of the current economic situation in Germany, which rose to -47.1, a 14.0-point increase from August.

At the sector level, most sectors showed improvement in their indices in September, particularly the insurance sector, which saw a 12.1-point increase to 46.4, driven by rising interest rates. The banking sector also rose by 8.2 points. However, the steel, metals, and automotive sectors remained in negative territory. In contrast, the index concerned with the Eurozone declined by 5.6 points to reach 25.8 points, while expectations indicated that it would rise to around 39.2. Meanwhile, the index assessing the current situation continues in the negative zone, despite its improvement at -13.9, which is 7.6 points lower than the August reading.
