New orders for durable goods rose in November, according to a report released moments ago by the US Census Bureau. The increase rose by $16.4 billion, or 5.3%, to reach $323.8 billion, compared to a 2.1% decline in October. This figure exceeded market expectations of a 3.1% increase. Meanwhile, core orders, excluding transportation equipment, rose by 0.5% in November, compared to a 0.1% increase in October (expectations were for 0.3%).
Specifically, new orders excluding defense rose by approximately 6.6%, with transportation equipment leading the increase, rising by 14.7%, or $15.3 billion, to reach $119.3 billion.
