Canadian retail sales decline in September Retail sales in Canada decreased by 0.5% in September, according to a report by Statistics Canada issued a moment ago, to reach $61.1 billion, after rising by 0.7% in August, matching expectations.

The decline in April was affected by a decline in sales at petrol stations and food and beverage stores.

The main index, which excludes the prices of gasoline and trade in cars and spare parts, decreased by 0.4%. In details, sales at petrol stations decreased by -2.4% for the third time in a row, after a decrease in gasoline prices by 7.4%, while car sales remained relatively unchanged in September.

The Canadian dollar is trading at 1.3400 levels against the US dollar, on decline, after the announcement of the data.
