Australian unemployment fell by 0.2 percentage points to 4.3%, according to figures released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) at the start of Asian trading on Thursday, November 13. This compares to 4.5% in September and is better than market expectations, which had anticipated a drop to 4.4%.
The labor force participation rate remained stable at 67.0%. The Australian economy added 42,200 jobs in October, bringing the total number of employed people to 14,683,200. This follows the addition of approximately 12,800 jobs in September, which was revised downwards. Expectations had anticipated the creation of around 20,000 jobs.
