Figures released this morning, Wednesday, February 25, during the Asian session by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) showed that consumer price inflation rose to 3.8% year-on-year in January, matching the increase in December and reaching its highest level since April 2024. This was slightly below expectations of a 3.7% rise. The index rose 0.4% month-on-month, compared to 1% in December.
The most significant increase in the index in January came from the housing sector, which grew by approximately 6.8%. The food and non-alcoholic beverages index rose by 3.1%, and the recreation and culture sector saw a 3.7% increase.
